The Sixers To Host A Free, Public Scrimmage At The Palesta On Sunday

The 76ers are holding a full-team scrimmage at the University of Pennsylvania’s historic Palestra on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and it’s free and open to the public! Tickets to the event, held at the Palestra with a capacity of 8,000, are free and available to the public upon arrival at the arena’s entrances. Doors open at 5 p.m. Head coach Doug Collins will be mic’d up during the scrimmage and the Sixers Dance Team and the Dunk Squad will also be in attendance to entertain the fans. Will you be going?

Celebrate Hanukkah 2011 at Rittenhouse Square tomorrow evening, Tuesday, December 20, as the giant menorah adjacent to the city’s largest Christmas tree is lit for the first night of the holiday, at 6:30 p.m.
Rittenhouse Square is one of Philadelphia’s most popular public spaces, utilized all year-round. It’s a treasured holiday experience to walk through its twinkling pathways.

See Rittenhouse Square's annual tree lighting tomorrow!

On Tuesday at 5 p.m. CBS's Kathy Orr will be on-hand to kick off the Rittenhouse Square Christmas season with the annual tree lighting ceremony, Philadelphia’s largest Christmas tree with more than 5,000 brilliant lights.

Pick up a complimentary elf hat and hot chocolate with cookies from TD Bank, where you can also snap a photo with Santa, at 18th and Walnut.

Other festivities include children’s ornament-making, and games and holiday entertainment from Chestnut Hill Academy and Springside School.

Afterwards, look out for Rittenhouse Row merchant specials, with vendors stretching from the Avenue of the Arts to 21st Street, between Spruce and Market Streets.

Celebrate White Friday in Manayunk!

Instead of the traditional Black Friday, Manayunk is celebrating “White Friday” on November 25.

Canal View Park will be host to the city’s first Christmas Tree lighting, caroling, Santa Claus and an outdoor bridal gown show by Nicole Miller.
There will be hot chocolate, treats and music from B101.

It’s all happening from 6-8 p.m. this Friday, November 25.

Rain or shine, it’ll be a wonderful way to mark a conclusion to a great Thanksgiving and a beginning to the rest of a joyous holiday season in Philadelphia.

Bill Cosby comes to Philly!

Temple's biggest cheerleader, Bill Cosby, who's also expected at commencement, hosts Comedy for a Cause to benefit the Community Partnership School tomorrow night at Temple's Mitten Hall (1913 N. Broad). The Community Partnership School is a collaboration between Germantown Academy and Project HOME. Comedians Gary Gulman and Ralph Harris perform after the reception, which honors scholar/author Charles L. Blockson for his devotion to African-American history. Want to be in a major motion picture?

Well here's your chance to be in The Silver Linings Playbook, starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence!

Heery Casting is holding an open call for background actors, otherwise known as "extras," on Saturday at a warehouse at 6900 Lindbergh Blvd. in Southwest Philly. The casting call is open to men and women, ages 20-65, all ethnicities, though men 30-60 of Southeast Asian/Indian descent are needed the most. Screen Actors Guild members will be seen from 10 a.m. to 11:30, and nonunion applicants are asked to come between 11:30 and 3:30 p.m.

All are asked to bring a casual photo, not a mug shot, that producers can keep. Heery says the filmmakers are especially looking for "real Philly characters."

Punk Rock flea market returns!

The “Spring Fever” edition of the Punk Rock Flea Market returns to Northern Liberties this Sunday, May 22 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

The Punk Rock Flea Market Dome will house more than 250 tables with vendors selling everything from handmade jewelry and crafts, to records, furniture, electronics, instruments, art and even junk.
R5 Productions, the indie music promoter behind the event, has dedicated more than 40 tables to selling exclusively punk items like old punk records, old band shirts and instruments.

There will also be nearly 20 different food vendor tables with snacks for everyone from carnivores to vegans. Little Baby’s Ice Cream, launching this weekend, will be on site selling ice cream from its tricycle freezer and Miss Rachel’s Pantry will be there, specializing in vegan sandwiches.

Though this is a completely non-music centric event, you’ll also be able to win tickets to shows and backstage passes.

Tickets are just $3. All proceeds go to support the “all ages shows” R5 Productions puts on at the First Unitarian Church and elsewhere throughout Philadelphia.
